This winter has been exceptionally bad for my dry skin. It only occurs on my hands and wrists, but it's terrible. Wanting to change that, I did some research, and here's what I found:
1. Avoid Hot Water
Hot water sucks the moisture out of your skin. Use lukewarm instead. Keep you showers short, and avoid hot tubs at all costs. The hot temperature combine with drying chemicals is torture for dry skin.2. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
If your skin feels tight, it's time to moisturize. It's as simple as that. Your skin will tell you when it's time.3. Get a Humidifier
Moisture in the air will keep your skin looking healthier and feeling better. In the winter, consider sleeping with a humidifier in your bedroom, and keep the door closed to prevent any moist air from escaping.4. Protect Your Hands
Wear gloves before you go outside. They will keep the moisture in your skin, and protect it from the harsh, cold weather.5. Don't Lick Your Lips
Licking your lips will dry them out rather that keeping them hydrated. Lip balm will keep your lips moisturized. Just keep some on you at all times.6. Only Use Moisturizing Soaps
It's best to stay away from drying soaps in the winter, and only stick with moisturizing soaps. This includes body wash AND hand soaps. I'm kind of a germaphobe so I wash my hands a lot, and switching to the moisturizing soaps helps.7. Increase Your Water Intake
Drink at least 8 glasses (8 oz) of pure water a day to keep your body and skin properly hydrated. Think of it as moisturizing from the inside out.8. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol
It's especially hard to wake up super early in the morning when it's dark out, but try to avoid coffee drinks and anything else with caffeine. They act as diuretics and will dry you out.
