Live. Love. Laugh. Blog.
I was cleaning my room and reorganizing my closet today when I found some tiny lightbulbs. It reminded me of how I've been wanting to fix my grandma's floral light (it needed a kind of light bulb that we could never find). The new tiny light bulb worked! Random!

But, one problem: the flowers didn't spin like they were supposed to.

I ended up having to take the whole thing apart and adjust the gears inside. It was actually kind of fun. I love taking things apart and putting them back together.

Crazy parts
Almost put back together
Tah Dah!
I remember being so fascinated by this spinning floral light when we would go visit my grandma when I was younger. Now that it's working again, I'll be reminded of the time I spent with her every time I look at it.
No more http://www.livelovelaughblog.blogspot.com!

From now on it's livelovelaughblog.net!!

So excited!

Update: There is one minor thing that SUCKS. All of the sharing you guys did via "Like," Twitter, StumbleUpon, etc. before the domain name change basically never happened because the web addresses of all of the blog posts changed, too. I didn't know that would happen. :( So, if you could, do me a huge favor and start clicking those share buttons like crazy. :)
I heard a song on the radio today and immediately recognized the melody from an older song by someone else. It was Lupe Fiasco's new single, "The Show Goes On." He reused the sound of Modest Mouse's song, "Float On" from back in 2004. I hope I'm not the only one that thinks that using other people's music like this is tacky.

There are times when sampling another artist's song can enhance their own - yet still remain original in their own right - such as Jason Derulo's use of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" in his song, "Whatcha Say."

Compare these two with each other:

"The Show Goes On" - Lupe Fiasco
"Float On" - Modest Mouse

& these two:

"Hide and Seek" - Imogen Heap
"Whatcha Say" - Jason Derulo
I go through phases when I listen to songs over and over again until I get sick of them. Here are my top 7 songs of the moment that I can't get enough of.
  1. The Edge of Glory - Lady Gaga
  2. Love You Like a Love Song - Selena Gomez
  3. Faster - Matt Nathanson
  4. Have No Fear - Bird York
  5. Drowning (Avicii Radio Edit) - Armin van Buuren
  6. Perfect - Hedley
  7. None of Dem - Robyn

Gaga opened with The Edge of Glory and Born This Way at the MTV Japan AID Relief last night, and she absolutely KILLED IT!

There was one little mishap, but it wasn't very noticeable.
I wish Gaga would release an acoustic album. This is by far my favorite performance of "Hair."

I was messing around with GarageBand and made a little song. Let me know what you think :)

We drove all day today except for stopping for food, gas, and to visit my Dad's friend Chuck and his wife, Sharon. My Dad and Chuck have known each other for 40+ years, and a lot has changed since they first met. Here's Chuck's and Sharon's testimony, as seen on their website:

"Following the birth of their son, Sharon Giacinto began to experience muscle weakness and extreme fatigue. It was discovered that her pituitary had stopped functioning properly.

Sharon would spend weeks at a time at Loyola Medical Center where they put her on massive doses of steroids to sustain her organs.

During this time, her husband Chuck was a barber. The doctors made it clear that the steroids could only be taken for seven years and after that her organs would begin to shut down and death would follow.

Chuck set out to give his wife a lifetime in those seven years. He went into the real estate business among others and did very well.

In their mid-thirties, possessing all that the world would think was worth having, Chuck was about to lose his wife, who by then was down to 83 pounds, legally blind in one eye, and wearing a wig because of hair loss.

But in the process, Chuck had worked his way up to becoming an alcoholic, and was also dabbling in the new age and the occult out of desperation. They were faithful members of a mainline denomination and wondered daily why God would allow this to happen.

Then, at the end of the seven years, the steroids no longer worked and Sharon was not a physical candidate for any other medical procedure. It was then that one of their employees asked permission to pray for her. She prayed in a way they were not used to and Sharon was healed instantly, eyesight and all!

Loyola Medical Center confirmed that Sharon now had a fully working pituitary! Chuck saw what the Lord had done for his wife and cried out to Him to be set free from the bondage of alcohol. His cries were heard and two lives were changed forever!

For the first time in their lives, they realized that what they had had was religion and not a personal relationship with the risen Christ. Now nothing was more important than sharing their new found faith and good news with others. They rented chairs two nights a week and held revival services in their home, which in time turned into a church.

They currently co-pastor the church they founded 25 years ago, which currently has a Christian Academy, an accredited Bible College, and a food pantry that feeds hundreds in the local community every month. They are in love with Jesus and have a heart for the harvest of the lost and needy. Pleasing the Father is at the top of their list, and they do their best to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit."

Chuck and Sharon gave us a tour of the church, and I got to see things I've always been curious about like backstage, the control booth, and even a recording studio! The technology they have is state-of-the-art. What impressed me most was the LED stage lighting, and the digital songbooks on stage for each singer and instrument player. They thought of everything - even a room in the back of the sanctuary for mothers with crying babies. It's wired with an audio feed so they don't miss a thing during the service. What's most impressive of all is that they built this church with no blueprint whatsoever, just a vision with the help of their son, an architect.

Anyhowsers, we just got home, and the dogs were ecstatic, losing all control of their bladders from the excitement of seeing us. I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight. Speaking of which, I should get to sleep. I have work in the morning. Good night!
Today was all about the Mall of America. It's amazing how huge it is.

The original plan for tonight was to stay in the same motel, then leave super early tomorrow morning, but plans change. We decided it would be better to not stay at the MOA all day, then drive a couple hours so we don't have so far to drive tomorrow.

We ended up in Tomah, Wisconsin, and the hotel we're at is so cute! It's so quaint and comfy. Out of all the hotels we've stayed at in the past week, this one is my favorite. It's family-owned, so I feel very at home.

We left the hotel by 11 - barely. Then ate at Perkins. I gorged myself. Lol.

We drove all day, and stopped at a gas station, where they had my favorite snack ever: Muddy Buddies! I can never find these where we live, but it seems like I've seen them at every gas station here!

Tomorrow is going to be all about the Mall of America, and I'm so excited!
This is the brand new music video for Lady Gaga's The Edge of Glory. At first I didn't like it at all, but now I love it. It's not outrageous or controversial. It's simple, and beautiful. It lets the song speak for itself.

During this performance at least...

This is quite possibly my favorite performance by Lady Gaga as of late. She performed on the Paul O'Grady Show tonight.

It official. I have a cold.

We took my Dad's cousin and her husband out to lunch and gave them their gifts first thing today. We took them to The Dakotan Restaurant, chatted for a while, then parted ways.

Afterwards, we went to a dinky pharmacy/store, and checked out a museum where they had an exhibit about the last lynching in North Dakota. My great grandfather was 1 of about 100 people involved in the lynching. No one said anything because there was no statute of limitations on murder. You can read more about it here.

We decided to head home tonight instead of tomorrow morning. We did everything we came here to do, and everyone's ready to be on our way. So, after packing in a record-breaking 35 minutes, we were on our way to Bismarck.

I'm going to miss this place, no doubt. But, I'll be happy to be home sweet home.

We made it to the hotel by 10:30, and now it's time for bed! Tomorrow's destination: Minnesota.
I woke up feeling sick this morning. My throat is on fire. I'm wondering if it's allergies or a cold coming on, but it's beautiful outside today!

We drove to Watford City to eat breakfast at the Dakotan Restaurant, then to Larsen Service Drug to get cough drops and Mucinex (for me, of course).

We got some ice cream at Twist, and it was just as delicious as yesterday. It sure made my sore throat feel better.

Next, we drove to Williston to go to walmart and get our oil changed, but they were booked. The funny part was that they had their own attached liquor store. Only in North Dakota. We ended up at Minute Lube, and got our oil changed.

Mom wanted to get a gift for my Dad's cousin for letting us stay in her lake house, so we went to this place called House of Economy. It had everything. I mean everything. We ended up buying her a pizza maker and some decorations for her garden.

Then, we went to the only decent car wash we could find and I washed it with a handheld sprayer and foam brush. That was fun...

By then it was time for dinner, and my parents didn't want to spend a lot of money, so we ate at Dairy Queen! Yum yum.

We drove back on the treaturous, pothole-filled road to get back to the lake house and we made a campfire.

It's so weird that it doesn't get dark outside until like 11:00. I love it, but it makes staying up to look at the stars difficult. We finally stayed up late enough tonight to see all the stars.

I wish I could capture on camera how beautiful the sky is at night. There aren't any city lights to drain out the light of the stars. Good night!
We got up at 9:30 today, then went to the Tobacco Gardens Cafe.

We visited my grandma's grave, then we drove to see some oil wells. Amy and I got on top of one of the oil tanks. The view from up there was beautiful.

This is where my Dad taught 5th and 6th graders when he was 29. He's 70 now.

One of my favorite places I remember from last time I was here was The Twist. Their ice cream is amazing!

On our way back to look at another oil well, a rock flew out of a semi truck and cracked our windshield. It'll be okay until we get back to Indiana, but it sucks that it had to happen. I took a panorama with my iPhone and it turned out great!

We drove out to where my great-grandfather raised my grandfather back in the 1930's. I took some pictures with my better camera, but I have no way to upload them right now, so I'll upload them in a post later. Here's two pictures of the view from their window and what part of the inside looked like I took with my iPhone. It was truly a little house on the prairie.

Here's a little panorama of the view outside their house.

Afterwards we visited my Great aunt's grave, and drove back into town to eat at The Dakotan Restaurant.

We picked up some groceries at Jack and Jill, and it was crazy to me that the cashier insisted that she brought our grocery bags to the car. I've never had that happen to me before.

We went home directly afterwards to the house and I took another panorama!

I love the app I used to make it. It's called Pano, available in the AppStore.

I'm exhausted, so it's bed time! Good night!

We slept in too late for breakfast this morning, so we stopped for lunch in Valley City at a little Mom & Pop's restaurant named Roby's. Their taco salad was so much better than Taco Bell's. Ha ha.

There was a little department store next to Roby's named Pamida, so we stopped there to take a look around. It was kind of like a wannabe walmart. I bought a DVD, Adventurland, and watched it on my laptop in the car.

My Dad's cousin, Glenn, was in the hospital in Bismarck, so we made a stop there to visit him. We bought him flowers and "Get Well Soon" balloon. I'm glad we did, too. No one else had brought him anything. He had what seemed to be a stroke on Thursday. The doctors have been doing tests on him to find out what exactly is wrong.

Going to the hospital was sort of surreal. The last time I was at this exact same hospital was when my grandma passed away back in 2003. My sister had E. Coli the time before that in 2001.

It's so pretty out here. I love being in the middle of nowhere with views that go on for miles.

We finally made it to Watford City today.

We stopped at my Dad's cousin Donna Lou's house to get the key for their house by Lake Sakakawea. The road out here was ROUGH. There were potholes everywhere.

The trip was totally worth it, now that we're here. This is going to be fun! Our little house is so cute, and it's on the lake!

We woke up around 9 this morning, ate the continental breakfast (which was actually pretty good), then were on the road by 11. We got to our next destination in Fargo, North Dakota at 5, after stopping for lunch at McDonald's and taking a driving break at a rest stop.

The next destination was at Dad's cousin Orvis's house to see him and his wife. We took them out to dinner at Doolittles Woodfire Grill. It was delicious, and I heard some new stories about Dad and Orvis that I had never heard before.

After dinner, we stopped at a bowling alley named The Bowler where my Dad used to bowl about 40 years ago. It was set up a lot differently than any other bowling alley I've been in. There were a lot of stairs, which would make it extremely difficult to wheel a bowling bag around.

We checked out the gambling room and I was walking around the poker tables when one of the employees yelled, "You can't be back there!" I walked between two of the tables guess she thought I was going to try to take poker chips that were clearly locked up in a case. She was crazy. Right after that a waitress asked me for my ID because only people 21 years old and older were allowed in the gambling area. I left mine in the car, so she asked me to leave. By then I was pissed off by how rude they were. I said "Don't worry. I don't plan on staying here much longer." She was extremely rude.

After that, we walked across the hall and the waitress followed us into the bar area, where there were KIDS! She told my Dad that I wasn't allowed in the bar area without my ID, and he retorted with "If you're going to kick him out, these 10 year-olds need to leave, too." That shut her up. Ha ha. So, we looked around some more and left.

There are two Comfort Inns here - East and West - and we ended up back at the wrong hotel. We even tried to get in the room with our number on it. The hotels were almost exactly the same. While Mom and Amy were getting out of the car, they were about to take a picture in front of a lilac bush they saw earlier. One problem: the bush wasn't there anymore. That's the only thing that was really different.

Anyways, we're back at the right hotel now. Tomorrow's destination: Watford City.

It's the first day of our trip! We woke up at 415 AM to be on the road by 5, then stopped at Mcdonald's for breakfast. Later, I woke up in the car just in time to watch Dad driving through a tollway in the I-Pass lane. We don't have an I-Pass. He and Mom didn't know that we had to stop and pay cash. We're going to get a ticket in the mail. Oopsie. I guess I should have stayed awake in the car.

Mississippi River
Lunch was at Culver's in Spring Green, Wisconsin. I slept a couple hours in the back seat, then we stopped at Dad's distant cousin Carol's house in Wesby to say hello. I hadn't been there since I was in diapers. His wife Pat was there and his sister Fay came over to say hello, also. We ate strawberry shortcake while told stories about my grandma, and their childhood, and one thing they remembered is going to a park with huge rocks that they played on. We found the park and the exact ledge that they would dare dare each other to jump over. Fay would do it but none of the boys would even dare try. It sounded kind of lame, but it was actually really cool! It's interesting to think about how those boulders got there. I bet my dad and his cousins/friends had a ton of fun playing games like Cops and Robbers as kids in the rocks. I know I would have loved it!

We ate dinner at Dairy Queen, and checked in at the Comfort Inn in Bloomington, Minnesota tonight. Tomorrow will be another driving day, and we're going to stop for the night in Fargo! Good night!
We're going on a trip for the next 10 days, and our neighbors are watching the dogs, so we decided to give Howie and Sophie a bath today! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

For some reason I'm obsessed with this song and music video at the moment.

I came home from work today, and found my mom and sister with Sophie. She chased down and killed a baby bunny. I guess it's just the hunting instinct in her. After it was dead, she laid down by it and made sure it didn't move. Poor bunny :( Bad Sophie!

Yesterday was Rachel's graduation party in Palatine! It was a great time! The party was in a tent next to a lake and golf course. We went paddle boating :) Check out the pictures below!
