Okay, so if you're squeamish or don't like reading about other people's digestive systems...stope here.
Anyways, the past week has been a huge wake up call for me. It all started last Tuesday. I was having these terrible cramps in my left side and couldn't "drop a deuce" if you know what I mean. I took some Miralax hoping that would solve the problem, but it didn't change a thing. I went to the doctor Thursday, and they told me to increase my fiber intake while I stay on the Miralax. Apparently it can take 2 to 3 days to work. An X-Ray failed to show anything wrong with my digestive system other than it was backed up, so that should have solved the problem.
I did what the doctor said, but the pain in my side continued to get worse. I was fine in the morning, but as the day progressed, the pain in my side became debilitating.
Yesterday, I went back to the doctor, and they suspected diverticulitis. So, I had to go to the hospital and get a CAT scan. I had to drink three cups of a lemonade-flavored cocktail in a 50-minute timespan before the scan. While sitting in the waiting area, I had a nice chat with an old man drinking the same lemonade concoction as me. He has had so many CAT scans that he couldn't remember how many times he's been to the hospital. He told me about his battle with liver cancer and really made me appreciate life and how lucky I am--to say the least.
Back to my CAT scan... The results didn't show signs of diverticulitis or anything else serious, so the doctor told me to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate when I got home.
Magnesium citrate is nothing to play around with. Let's just say it cleared me right out. I'm still recovering.
Long story short--Eat your fiber, kids!
This little predicament has opened my eyes to how I need to eat healthier. I may not be fat or appear unhealthy from the outside, but my eating habits haven't been the best. If I didn't have a high metabolism, I would be 500 pounds--seriously.
No more soda every day. No more fast food when I'm craving it. It's all nutrition now. It's time to get healthy.
