Today was a great day!
The first thing we did this morning was get dressed and go grocery shopping at Publix. We woke up at 9 o'clock, early enough to have the continental breakfast downstairs, but decided we'd go get grocery shopping instead. That way we could get to the beach sooner. After picking up groceries, we got donuts from Dunkin' Donuts. I had never eaten a donut from there, but I had heard that they're really good. After all, America runs on Dunkin' like the box says, right? We got 2 dozen, yes, 24 donuts, for 4 people. I ate two, and now there's 8 left. You do the math. Factor in the fact that my dad eats about half of all the sweets we buy.

As soon as we were finished hauling our groceries upstairs, it was beach time! It was a bit cloudy while we were grocery shopping, but the sky cleared up just in time to go soak up the sun. Amy and I brought our rafts that we usually take to the pool at home, so it was nice to just float around in the ocean for a while. I put 50 SPF sunblock on to be extra careful about getting a sunburn, but somehow I missed some spots on my back. Needless to say, those spots are bright red and radiating heat right now.

According to the meteorologists we call our iPhones, it was supposed to start raining around 4 o'clock. So, when it started getting cloudy and windy around that time, we came inside. I lay down on the bed for a minute to do some schoolwork, and immediately fell asleep for an hour. Impromptu naps are always fun, but it never did rain.
For dinner, we walked down to the pier and ate at a restaurant called The Village Grille. Our waiter was from Virginia, and extremely nice. It seems like no one we've met was actually born and raised Florida. That's one of the things I love so much about Fort Lauderdale. It's a melting pot. There's so much diversity and all kinds of interesting people.
After dinner, Amy and I walked around to the different shops near the pier while Mom and Dad went to watch a band perform. The past two years that we've been here, there's been a festival the same weekend for St. Patrick's Day. For some reason, that festival isn't happening this year. It still feels like the festival is going on though, because the bands are still here. The only difference is that there aren't any vendors' booths around on the street selling food and crafts.

Even without the vendors, there are plenty of places to shop! While Amy and I were walking around to the stores near the pier, we noticed one that wasn't here last year. It's called Doggies & Diamonds. Upon seeing the sign, I figured it was a pet store, but no. They literally sell dogs (puppies) and diamonds (jewelry). It's an unusual combination, but the puppies get people in the store, I guess. It was the busiest store on the strip. People love puppies.
Amy and I walked back to the hotel along the beach with our iPhone flashlights. Mom and Dad were already back. It was a beautiful day and night.
I took my nightly bath in the jacuzzi, and now it's time for bed. Tomorrow is going to be another beach day!
